This is a reposting of a message from 2015, that bears repeating.
The great Himalayan master, Swami Rama, said something very important: “I know this will disappoint you, but it is the truth: no one outside you can give you salvation. Don’t trust or depend on anyone to do that…the truth is, we have to enlighten ourselves. You have to light your own lamp; nobody else will give you salvation.”
But, can’t someone else take away my pain and place me in everlasting spiritual bliss? Unfortunately, no, at least not for long.
The reason for this is because it is my own mind, and my own thoughts, that bind me to things of the world, and it is this attachment that creates most of my suffering.
If it’s my mind that creates my attachment, then it has to be my mind that frees me. Others can help, but they can’t do it for me anymore than they can sleep for me or learn for me.
So, we have to light our own lamp, and walk our own path to ultimate freedom.
