All too often I catch myself living on automatic. By living on automatic, I mean through the motions of life with just a minimal portion of my mind being present. During those times, the rest of my mind is planning for the future or worrying about the past.
Living on automatic gets me through the day, but there is huge cost. The cost is missing out on the vibrancy of life.
Life happens in moments. When my mind is present in those moments, I experience what's happening around me and feel my emotions. I feel alive.
When I'm on automatic, I barely feel life at all.
So, to get the most from life, when I notice that my mind is on automatic, I turn my awareness to my breath and senses to return to the moment.
Life is too brief to spend it on automatic.
