INTRODUCING A NEW BOOK

BY RANDALL KRAUSE

Pathways to Self-Awareness

Contemplations on Yoga Meditation and Do-It-Yourself Meditation Manual

Pathways to Self Awareness Book Cover Small

Pathways to Self-Awareness is an invitation to explore the deeper meaning of our life’s journey. It encourages us to ask ourselves the ultimate question: Who am I? Written in brief and often poetic prose, readers can turn again and again to this book for guidance and direction along the path to their True Self. The book is composed of heart touching readings filled with wisdom gained by the author’s 28 years with his meditation teacher and his daily yoga-meditation practice.

Pathways to Self-Awareness is for everyone - those who are new to the concepts of Yoga and meditation, as well as more experienced practitioners. Composed of daily readings, the book’s simple format allows us to open to any page for inspiration and guidance.

Pathways to Self-Awareness makes it clear that finding inner peace is an individual journey and offers the reader tools to find it for him or her self. Rather than providing formulas or prescriptions, the author teases us by alluding to the benefits that can be found at each stage of the quest. Descriptions of these benefits--for example cultivating a pleasant ('saumya') mind or discovering your own wisdom--provide an incentive to follow the path of self-discovery.

I would liken this book to a small jewel.''

About Randall

"Change myself and the world by living and teaching Himalayan Yoga Meditation."

My interest in meditation came naturally to me, from the inside.  It first appeared when I was in Law School in the late 1970's.  It was a very stressful time, and rather than being drawn to drugs, sex and other ways my friends found for dealing with the stress, the idea came to meditate.  I bought a book by Ram Dass, The Only Dance There Is, and found a Tibetan mantra in it, “Om Mani Padmi Hum”  that I started to use for meditation.  I had no lessons, and just focused on the mantra in my mind and meditated as best as I could.  It calmed me down, and I kept meditating in that way for a long time.  Actually, this first way of meditating helped me through the State Bar Exam.

The exam was three days long, and very difficult.  At one point my mind became so tired that I could not understand the questions and could not think.  So, I closed my eyes and meditated for about ten minutes.  Afterwards I was able to go on, and passed the exam.

I stopped meditating for some months, and then got immensely interested in spirituality and started meditating again.  By then I was living in the San Francisco area. Following my inner promptings I enrolled in a spiritually based Masters program in Holistic Health Education, and eventually graduated with a M.A. in Holistic Studies.

In the meantime, I started looking for a meditation teacher. A friend told me that a great Indian sage named Dr. Arya from the Himalayan Yoga Meditation Tradition was in town, and I went to see him.  It was love at first sight.  I had never previously experienced such a feeling of love for a person, and didn’t know what to make of it.  I wanted to become his student then,  but Dr. Arya advised me to look around and not make a fast choice. So, following his advice, I checked out a lot of other teachers and even went to India.  A year or so later I found my way back to Dr. Arya and asked him for initiation into the Himalayan Tradition in 1988, and I have been studying with him ever since both in the USA and India.

Beginning in about 1992, I started traveling to India year after year and was able to study and learn very closely from Dr. Arya -- who eventually took monastic vows and his name changed to Swami Veda Bharati.  I've been fortunate to also be able to work closely with him when he's visitied the USA and I traveled with him one time to teach in Netherlands and Italy.

In 2000, the Himalayan Yoga Tradition Teacher’s Training program was formed and I was at the initial organizational meetings, and became one of the first students. I completed the program in 2005 and was certified and became registered with Yoga Alliance at the 500 RYT level.

Since that time I’ve taught with the teacher training program as a faculty member, and am now a Senior Mentor and administrator in the program.  I also founded Hym-la, (Himalayan Yoga Meditation --Los Angeles) and started teaching under its banner.  Hym-la is a non-profit tax-exempt organization and all money made goes to charitable projects. I make my living managing a commercial real property management business and volunteer my time to Hym-la without compensation.

Over the years, in addition to my journey into yoga, I stopped practicing law and got trained and certified as a Certified Professional Co-active Coach, and took much more training in Effective Communication and in a wonderful method called Gremlin Taming to help people get out of their own way.   I’ve coached quite a few people and developed a way to coach from the perspective of yoga, which is what I do now. My focus is coaching people to live full lives, integrating their worldly and spiritual sides.  I help people live the life that is written in their heart.  All this is also done under Hym-la’s banner, and all funds received go to charitable purposes.

One of the most wonderful things in the world is to grow, even a little, into being more happy, less agitated, more in touch with the treasure that is hidden in every heart, and my work is to change myself and the world by living and teaching Himalayan Yoga Meditation.
